Understanding Your Bill

Your bill has a new format beginning in September 2016. This change is a result of our move to a new billing system, which streamlines processes and provides a better member experience overall.

Billing Date: (Top Right) Date bill was processed
Account Number: A unique member identification number
Total Amount Due: Amount to be paid by the due date
Message from TCEC: Important information from your local electric cooperative
Monthly kWh Usage History: A statistical view of your monthly usage over the last 13 monthly bill periods, displaying kilowatt-hours used by month.
Average Daily Use: This shows monthly usage divided by the days in the billing period to show the average daily kilowatt-hours used during the period. Use these comparisons along with the temperature information to look for unusual energy usage.
Remittance Stub: Please detach and remove the bottom portion of your bill and return with your payment

Voting District: The territory served by the cooperative is divided into nine districts, each represented by one trustee. This number indicates your voting district.
Account Number: A unique member identification number
Service Address: The physical address electric service is delivered to for the account
Phone Number: The current phone number on file for the account. Please keep this current.
Meter Number: The unique meter identification number
Service From and To: Dates for the billing period
Days: Number of days in the billing period
Readings Previous and Present: Meter readings
Meter Multiplier: Used to calculate actual usage for meters that register only a portion of kilowatts or kilowatt-hours used.
kWh Usage: Electricity used in the billing period
Rate Description: Rate the account is billed according to TCEC’s Rules and Regulations of Service, published at www.tcec.coop.
Map Location: Unique location identifier for the service on TCEC’s mapping system

Charges/Credits

Service availability charge - a fixed fee that recovers a portion of the cost required to deliver power to your home or business. This charge is intended to recover the investment in the infrastructure which includes metering, poles, wires, substations and transformers. The actual cost of this infrastructure is higher than what we recover through the service availability charge. The remainder of this expense is captured in the energy charge.

Energy charge - a charge billed on a fixed rate per kilowatt-hour (kWh) based on the amount of electricity you use. The rate per kWh is defined by service type in the Rules and Regulations. The energy charge recovers:
A portion of the wholesale cost of the electricity used. For oil wells, large power and irrigation the demand component of the rate recovers some wholesale costs.
A portion of the cost to build and maintain the electric distribution system that is not captured in the service availability charge.

Power cost adjustment (PCA) - also based on the amount of electricity used, this charge is billed using a variable kWh rate. The PCA rate is calculated based on wholesale supplier costs using a formula defined in the Rules and Regulations of Service. The PCA helps our rates always reflect the real cost to serve you – no more or less.

What is a kilowatt-hour?
A kilowatt-hour (kWh) is the standard unit of measure for electricity use and is equal to 1,000 watt-hours. For example, a 100-watt light bulb running for one hour uses one-tenth of a kWh. If electricity cost 10 cents per kWh, it costs one cent per hour to operate that bulb.
